The two main types of pass boxes are:
A static pass box is a simple transfer system used between two cleanrooms or controlled areas. There is no filtration system or airflow mechanism. It prevents contamination by ensuring only one door opens at a time due to the interlocking feature.
The dynamic pass box has an air filtration system usually a HEPA Filter and a blower fan. It assists in reducing contamination and airborne particles when material are transferred from non-clean areas to cleanrooms. Usually these industrial pass box systems are crucial in environments such as pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
The item is placed inside the industrial pass box from the entry side and the first door is closed securely. Until the first one is closed, the second door remains locked. Once the indicator shows it's safe, the item is removed by opening the second door on the clean side.
